The day I nearly snogged the postman…BakerDays Cake Review

Imagine the absolute joy my stomach felt the day a cake company Baker Days messaged me to ask if I’d like to review one of their cakes! It was probably one of the most exciting moments of my blogging experience to date. Not only was it cake, but it would arrive via post! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, someone has been tapping into my dreams. But then my brain and stomach connected and I was jolted back to my new ‘clean eating, trying to loose weight, new me bullshit’ reality, I had just posted a blog post ranting about falling off the diet wagon (See that post here). And I thought to myself sod it, have the cake and BAM, quick as you like the email agreeing to receive cake was sent!

I am sat on the sofa ignoring the world and tucking into a lovely vanilla sponge and buttercream lettuce. I’m on a diet don’t you know!

Baker Days specialise in personalised cakes. It has a really simple website that allows you to choose your size, sponge type (including wheat free & dairy free!), and select from a massize choice of pre designed cakes; or you can add your own picture. You then put in your details, pay and then cake appears at the door as quickly as the next day! What isn’t fantastic about that?

One hitch…mine didn’t come through the post box, oh no, maybe my postman must of knew there was precious cake enclosed! So off the other half went to the post office to claim my cake. Opening the box and the smell of vanilla sponge wafted through the kitchen, it smelt gorgeous! It took a lot of restraint to take pictures before diving in. The box contained a little card, 2 candles, 3 balloons and a party blower (yeah that’s what Google says they are called!) perfect for a little celebration I thought. See my little picture below. Yes, I chose to disguise my cake with a picture of a lettuce; it doesn’t count then! I’m on a diet you know!

Suddenly both the other half and the toddler were distracted from flying remote control helicopters into the ceiling and we’re at my side quicker than you can say ‘cake’. I felt a bit sad to cut it up, it was so cute. But the idea of a review if to talk about what it’s like, so I dished it up in compulsory multicoloured plastic plates. The pink one is obviously mine! The 5 inch letter box cake is perfect size for sharing between four with a cup of tea.

How was the cake I hear you ask? Bloody lovely! The best lettuce I have ever tasted! Went down an absolute treat, sponge was flavoursome and light. There wasn’t a crumb left on any of the plates. Now I’m not the greatest fan of icing, it wasn’t too sweet, but definately couldn’t have eaten any more icing after my 1/4! Would definitely be a fantastic idea for a little gift for someone, brightened my day!

I did initially think “is 1 layer of sponge really classed as a cake?” but that was the inner greedy self coming to light. Of course it is! The only thing that would put me off is the price, £14.99 is a tad expensive for me. However a cute cake that can be completely personalised and delivered via royal mail I’d perhaps stretch to that for a special occasion!
